Hugh McPherson was a Patriot from Portsmouth, Virginia. 

Like many local citizens who supported independence, his military service, civic duty, and personal sacrifice often overlapped. 

McPherson is remembered along with other local patriots who formed Virginia’s revolutionary effort during the struggle against British rule. 

His grave is preserved as part of the rich Revolutionary history of Portsmouth and the historic Trinity Churchyard.
