Grant Stokes

Our Rector

After graduating seminary, I moved to the area and was ordained to the priesthood on Holy Cross Day, 2013. During my five-year tenure at a local parish I began to fall in love with this area and the people of this diocese. In 2017 I moved to Portsmouth and began to see the exciting things happening just down the street from my house at Trinity. I inquired with the Bishop’s office about a position and I am now the Rector here! Trinity is a wonderful parish and I am honored to serve here.

Connie Gilman

Connie Gilman

Priest Associate

Portsmouth is my hometown. Following my seminary education at Virginia Theological, I began my ordained ministry in the Allegheny mountains of Virginia where I served as Rector of Emmanuel Episcopal Church and Chaplain to Boys’ Home of Virginia. In 2009 I moved to Houston, Texas, to serve as a chaplain in St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital at the Medical Center.

Returning to Tidewater, I was called by Christ Episcopal Church in Smithfield to serve as their Priest in Charge. After my retirement, I was honored to be invited to join the staff of Trinity where I am Priest Associate for Pastoral Care. Many years ago, my life as an Episcopalian began in this community of faith where all are welcomed and recognized as children of God. I am overjoyed to call Portsmouth home and especially thankful to participate in the life of Trinity Episcopal Church.

Sexton

As the sexton of Trinity Episcopal Church, I take great pride in maintaining the church and its courtyards, ensuring that everything remains in excellent condition for our congregation and visitors. In addition to upkeep, I also help plan and set up various events, including weddings, parties, and funerals, making sure each occasion runs smoothly.

I have lived in Virginia for a long time and have called Portsmouth home for the past two decades. Outside of my work at the church, I am a passionate hobbyist and a certified welder with four years of experience. I enjoy working on cars and electronics, always eager to take on a new project or repair.

Serving as the sexton has been a truly rewarding experience, and I look forward to continuing in this role for years to come.
